MEXICAN PAPER MONEY
Till the nineteenth century, Mexicans used gold and silver as well as copper coins as their money and only after Mexico became an independent country that Mexican paper money came to be used. In fact, the first note as far as paper money of Mexico was concerned only appeared in the year 1813 and this was orange in color and made out of cardboard. It is believed that it first made an appearance in San Miguel el Grande in Guanajuato. Nobody really knows for sure who issued these notes, though there were also supposed to be some form of paper money circulated in Louisiana which at the time was a Spanish colony during this same period.
As recently as 30 September, 2002 a twenty-peso banknote made out of polymer was circulated which shows just how much change has come in the making of paper money in Mexico and the cardboard that is not long lasting has now become polymer because it lasts a long while.
