PAPER MONEY

UNITED STATES PAPER MONEY

The first use of IN GOD WE TRUST on United States paper money occurred in 1957 when the national motto of America was used on one dollar notes. In fact, it was on 1st October, 1957 that the first paper currency notes bearing this motto entered into circulation in the United States and the printing was done by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. What’s more, the printing process used to print these notes was known as dry intaglio process and it was normal to print thirty-two notes to each sheet of printing paper.

Most Americans and others too refer to the United States paper money as greenbacks and one of the reasons for this nickname is that the back of the notes were green in color and this color also symbolized stability. Moreover, this tradition of having green colored notes has not changed and even today the US paper money is still of the same green color which is distinct from paper money of most other countries.
